SEO and website design

Get found by people searching, and by the AI they ask instead

Most small businesses are invisible in two different places at once. They do not rank when someone searches, and they do not get mentioned when someone asks an AI the same question. Those used to be one problem. They are now two, with two different fixes, and the second one is where almost nobody has done the work yet.

Why isn't my website bringing in any business?

It is usually not the copy. The site was never built to be found. There is nothing on it telling a search engine what the business is or who it serves, there are no pages for the things people actually type in, and a lot of sites hand back an empty shell to anything that is not a human with a browser.

So the site looks fine to you and looks like nothing to the thing deciding whether to show you. Fixing that is unglamorous and it is where the fastest movement lives.

What actually changed about search?

People increasingly get an answer instead of a list of links. That moves the goal. You are no longer only trying to rank on a page of results, you are trying to be the source the answer gets built from.

Being straight with you: traffic arriving from AI answers is still a small slice of the total. It is not a replacement for search traffic and we will not sell it as one. It is the highest-intent slice, because someone asking a question and being handed your name is already most of the way to a conversation, and the work compounds instead of expiring.

Does my site need rebuilding, or just fixing?

Usually fixing, and we will say so. A rebuild is the bigger project for us, so treat that answer as costing us something.

We rebuild when the site cannot serve real content to a crawler, when you cannot add pages without a developer, or when it is so slow on a phone that nobody stays long enough to read it. Website design and build sits inside this service rather than beside it, because a beautiful site nobody can find is a brochure.

How would I know if it worked?

We set up the free reporting that shows real impressions and clicks, take a baseline before anything is touched, and report against that baseline instead of against a feeling.

One honest limit: we do not own anything that comprehensively tracks whether an AI cited you. Any citation check we run is a manual sample, and we will label it as a sample every time rather than dressing it up as measurement.

What we check first, and what we usually find

What we checkWhy it mattersWhat we usually find on a small business site
Can a crawler read the page at allIf content only appears after scripts run, AI crawlers see nothingCommon on modern site builders
Machine-readable description of the businessIt is what an AI reads to know what you do and who you serveAlmost always missing entirely
A page for each thing you sellOne page can only ever rank for your business nameMost sites are a single page
Answer-first writingAn answer has to stand alone to be quotedRare, most pages bury it
Speed on a phoneMobile is the version that gets judgedUsually the weakest area
Whether AI crawlers are blockedOne line in a config file can make all of this impossibleOccasionally blocked by accident

Questions people ask

How long does SEO take to work?

Longer than paid ads and shorter than people fear. Technical fixes can change how you appear within days because they change what crawlers can read immediately. Ranking for competitive terms is a months-long project. We will tell you which of the two your situation is before you commit to anything.

Do I need to rebuild my website?

Usually not. Most small business sites need fixing rather than replacing, and we will say so even though a rebuild would be the bigger project for us. We rebuild when the site physically cannot serve content to a crawler, cannot grow new pages, or is too slow on a phone to hold anyone.

Can you get me cited in ChatGPT?

We can do the things that make it far more likely: structure the answers so they can be lifted, publish material that exists nowhere else, make sure nothing is blocking AI crawlers, and keep the pages current. Nobody can promise a citation, and anyone who does is selling you something.

Is this different from what an SEO agency does?

The technical foundation overlaps. The difference is that we treat being the source of an AI answer as a separate job from ranking, because it is, and we build the site itself rather than sending you a list of fixes and hoping your developer gets to them.
